Singapore Zoo, River Safari and Night Safari

37Located roughly 20 kilometres from Singapore’s city centre lies the Singapore Zoo. A world renowned zoological park, it houses 315 different species. All the animals are kept in naturalistic “open exhibits”. Instead of bars and cages, barriers are hidden or a moat is used instead. This makes it easier for each enclosure to be landscaped in a style that’s close to the animal’s natural habitat. It also gives the visitors an excellent view. Singapore Zoo houses the largest captive colony of orang-utans in the world. Other animals living here include white tigers, African lions, gorillas, cheetahs, saltwater crocodiles, giraffes, jaguars, leopards, elephants, white rhinos and many, many more.

You should start early when you visit the zoo, as there are three major attractions next to each other. The second on your list should be the River Safari. Opened in November 2012, the brand new River Safari is home to 5000 animals. Built as a series of river boat rides, you will visit famous rivers from around the world including the Nile, the Yangtze, the Mississippi and the Amazon. Animals you will see along the way include anacondas, electric eels, Mekong freshwater stingrays, manatees and the critically endangered Mekong giant catfish. If you’re not content with a gentle ride on the river, you just need to try some white water rafting.

Unlike normal theme park rapids rides, this one will take you through the enclosure of the majestic Malayan Tiger. The River Safari also contains a 1,400 sq. metre structure called The Frozen Tundra which is home to two polar bears. The enclosure is completely climate controlled and its temperature matches that of the Artic. Undoubtedly though, the main attraction at the River Safari is the giant pandas. Kai Kai and Jia Jia also live a climate controlled enclosure; this one designed to rotate through the four seasons, mimicking the weather from the panda’s original home in China. The River Safari has also grown an 8000 sq. metre plantation of bamboo specifically to feed the two pandas.

Your last stop of the day is the Night Safari. Built in in the early 1990s, the Night Safari is the world’s first nocturnal zoo. Whereas most zoos reverse the day-night cycle in order for the animals to be awake during the day while the zoo is open, the Night Safari is designed so visitors can see nocturnal animals, outside in their natural habitat. You can see the animals from the walkways provided but the best way is to take the tram. This will take you deep into the enclosures with some animals coming so close you could reach out and touch them. With all the fencing and boundaries being so well hidden, it really does feel like you’re in the wild.

Singapore zoo is world renowned, the Night Safari is the first of its kind and still one of the only night safaris in world. It’s also one of the most popular tourist attractions in Singapore. Still new, the River Safari is gaining worldwide recognition for its innovation and dedication to conservation. All three attractions are a must see for any visitor to Singapore.

Japan Travel Information

36There are few places in the world that hold as much mystique for Westerners as does Japan. Even with all of the attention that Japan has garnered on the world stage over the past few decades due to its very strong economic success, there is much about this country that remains unknown.

To really get a sense for what Japan is like, of course, you will need to visit there yourself. Just like reading a recipe book about apple pie does not substitute for an actual taste of warm apple pie, there is really no way to really start to understand Japan until you have visited or lived there.

If you are planning on traveling to Japan for the first time – or if you live in Japan and just want to get out and see the country on your next vacation break – a great place to start your journey is with the various attractions that Japan offers.

If you are looking for Japan travel information, 5 attractions in Japan that you must see are the following:

1. Tokyo Tower:

The Tokyo tower is very much a symbol of modern Japan, including Japan’s economic success. In fact, the tower was created in 1958 as a symbol for the country’s growing economic prominence in Asia and the world. The Tokyo Tower was modeled on the Eiffel Tower in Paris – and in fact is 13 meters taller. This makes it the world’s tallest self-supporting steel tower. Today the tower contains TV and radio antennas – as well as a great view of much of Tokyo (and Mt. Fuji!) for visitors to enjoy.

2. The Daibutsu (Great Buddha) at Nara:

Now, let’s take a little trip to ancient Japan. Buddhism has been an influential force in Japan for well over 2,000 years. One of the most notable single physical symbols of the reverence that many Japanese have held for Buddhism over the years has been the Daibutsu (meaning, literally, Great Buddha) in the city of Nara. Nara is located near Kyoto in Western Japan.

The Daibutsu statue is located in the Todaiji Temple. And, it is really something to behold in person. At 15 meters tall and weighing 250 tons, it is the largest gilt-bronze statue in the world. The statue was completed in A.D. 752, but it has been damaged (and therefore rebuilt) many times over the centuries.

3. Ueno Zoo in Tokyo:

Back in Tokyo: if you love visiting the zoos, you are sure to love the Ueno Zoo (official name: Onshi Ueno Dobutsuen). This is Japan’s oldest and most famous zoo and has been in operation since 1882. Today, the zoo houses well over 400 species of animals, making it the zoo with the greatest variety of species anywhere in Japan. Visitors can even ride the monorail located within the park, which connects the eastern and western portions of the zoo.

4. Osaka Aquarium:

Do you like to watch marine life in its natural environment? Then you will love the Osaka Aquarium (Osaka Kaiyukan). It is one of the largest in the world. This aquarium is located in the Minato ward of Osaka, near Osaka Bay (in Western Japan). You can get to Osaka from Tokyo via the shinkansen (bullet train), then take local trains or buses to the aquarium. The Osaka Aquarium features 16 tanks, the largest of which holds 5,400 cubic meters of water.

5. Nagoya Zoo & Botanical Garden (Higashiyama Koen):

Botanical gardens are a wonderful place to view nature in a relaxing, unrushed fashion. If your trip to Japan will bring you to the Nagoya area, be sure to check out the Nagoya Zoo & Botanical Garden (Higashiyama Koen).

This is a large park with well-maintained paths. You can easily spend hours among nature here and forget that you are in the middle of a very large city. If you are a walker or a runner and want a place to exercise, the rolling hills of the Garden await you. A visit to this place can be a great treat after being in the hustle and bustle of the big city.

I would love to visit the night safari and Singapore zoo. I am planning to spend my winter holidays in Singapore. Singapore zoo is top listed in my itinerary. It is the hub of different animals and birds. You can enjoy exploring rare species closely.

I would like to talk about my friends experiences of the Singaporean Zoological Garden and night safari in this report. The below are the experiences that my colleges have shared with me.

Singapore Zoo:

You have to choose between two types. If you visit during the early hours, you can glory in seeing the “daylife” animals and birds. It will be open till the midnight. In the late afternoon it turns to Night Safari. It brings even more fun.

Singaporean Zoo is known as zoological garden. The Singapore Zoo is as big as 28 hectares. The Zoological Garden follows the today’s movement of open constructions. You are able to view every animal rambling nearby. It is the unique occasion they have in Singapore zoo. We can relish the living tour live path of investigating animals. They Are housing in straggly and sweeping brawns. They live detached from the human by either dry or wet rills.

The Singaporean Zoo has a huge variety of animals which includes White Rhinoceros, White tiger, African hunting Dog, Sumatran Orangutan, banded Mongoose, maned wolf etc. You can to find also a reptile Garden. There you are able to see western diamond backed rattle snake, green iguana, king cobra etc.

One thing that most visitors are going to remember is €œBreakfast with an Orangutan”. It entertains young people a lot. All travelers can enjoy this action. I can’t wait to explore it myself. Everyone is able to closely view trained orangutan in that attraction. Animal shows are also popular in this zoological gardens.

It is the award winning Singapore Zoo got many honors from the Singapore tourism, ASEAN tourism association awards etc. It is the first animal park in history to breed a polar bear so near to the equator. Yes, people who do a visit Antarctica are able to see watching Polar bear in the zoo.

Rides:

The rides are the famous attraction. It offers different types of rides. You can relish the rides on trams, animals, boat, pony and horse carriage rides. There are also different event venues available. They are Forest Lodge, Pavilion-By-the-Lake and Garden Pavilion.

The exhibits in the Night safari are created in SA and other parts of the world. Night Safari is also similar to the open concept of zoo. There are variety of meals and dining venues in night safari. Guests are able to enjoy the Ice cream stop, Bongo Burgers at the Ulu-Ulu safari restaurant, Ben and Jerry’s. There are local and international cuisines available.

Fire show is popular in night safari. Kids will really enjoy this show. Even my friends got excited to see their activities with fire. I saw tribal people in one of the photos that my friends have shared. We can really feel like we are in the midst of the clad. It would take you away from your busy life. You can enjoy seeing the men and women wearing jungle dress.

It entertains the visitors starting from the morning till the mid night. Also you can enjoy watching the night birds and animals and their activities. It is uncommon and only in Singapore we can explore them at a close distance in Southeast Asia.

I am so curious to visit this place and experience the real fragrance of the rainforest.
